How Cars are scrapped— Rosmerta Technologies

At the Auto Expo 2025, Rosmerta Technologies showcased its Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility. In this article we take you through the process of scrapping an old or accidental car which is beyond repair-

Step-by-Step Process

1. Collection of ELV
Vehicle owners can initiate the process by contacting Rosmerta Recycling for an evaluation. The vehicle is assessed based on its condition, and a price quote is provided promptly. Once the owner accepts the offer, Rosmerta arranges for vehicle pickup from the given location. To ensure transparency and security, an Assurance Certificate is issued upon collection, confirming the transfer of the vehicle for recycling.

2. De-Pollution
In this stage, all hazardous and polluting components such as engine oil, coolant, fuel, and battery acids are carefully extracted using advanced de-pollution equipment. These materials are then disposed of safely through authorized vendors, ensuring they do not harm the environment.

3. Dismantling & Segregation
The vehicle is systematically dismantled using modern equipment. Usable components like engines, tires, batteries, and catalytic converters are separated and evaluated for potential resale or recycling. The process adheres to strict environmental and safety guidelines, ensuring minimal impact on the surroundings.

4. Bale Process

Once all usable components are removed, the vehicle’s metal body shell is crushed and compressed into bales. These compacted metal blocks are then transported to smelters and steel mills for recycling into new products, reducing the need for virgin metal extraction.

5. Disposal to Authorized Agencies
Both hazardous and non-hazardous materials are sent to authorized recyclers and waste management agencies for proper disposal. This ensures compliance with environmental laws and prevents the materials from being misused.

By following this structured approach, Rosmerta Recycling not only ensures safe vehicle disposal but also helps vehicle owners complete all documentation and legal formalities conveniently. This process promotes sustainability, prevents vehicle misuse, and contributes to India’s circular economy.

Government of India’s scrapping policy

The Vehicle Scrappage Policy introduced by the Government of India in 2021 aims to phase out unfit and polluting vehicles, promote eco-friendly recycling, and boost the automobile sector. It mandates fitness tests for vehicles over 15-20 years old, offers incentives for scrapping, and ensures environmentally responsible disposal through registered scrapping facilities. Via this policy, owners can receive up to 25% rebate on road tax as well as discounts on purchase of new vehicles.
