Skoda Kylaq unveiled; Prices start at 7.89L

Skoda has launched their latest SUV, called the Kylaq in India at a price of Rs. 7.98 lakhs(Ex-showroom). The new entry-level Skoda gets based on the same MQB-A0-IN platform as it’s larger siblings- Kushaq and Slavia. It is Skoda’s first attempt in the Sub 4 metre SUV space.

Skoda Kylaq: Design

While being based on the same platform as Kushaq, the Kylaq’s length has been shortened to xx with the wheelbase also received a haircut of xx mm. At the front, you have a ‘butterfly’ grille flanked by thin LED DRLs. The Kylaq also gets cornering fog lamps along with projector headlamps. Towards the side, it retains a familiar profile to the Kushaq. To fit the 3995mm length, Skoda has had to shorten the wheelbase by 85mm. It also gets 17 inch alloy wheels. At the rear as well, the Kylaq retains the subtle theme. The rear bumper also gets a beefy faux skid plate.

Skoda Kylaq: Interiors & Features

Being based on the same MQB-A0-IN platform as its siblings, it gets a similar dashboard layout as well. Changes include a new trim piece on the passenger side as well as a different centre fascia. At the centre of it sits a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay functionality. Other features include a 10 inch digital instrument cluster, cruise control, wireless smartphone charging, leather seats, Keyless entry, electric sunroof, powered front seats with ventilation, ambient lighting and more. In terms of safety, the Kylaq comes loaded with 6 airbags, ABS+EBD, ESC, Brake Disc Wiping, EDL and more.

Skoda Kylaq: Powertrain & Price

Under the hood, the Kylaq can be had with only a 1.0L TSI engine with 115HP and 178NM of torque. This can be had mated to either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed torque converter automatic transmission with paddleshifters. According to Skoda, it will do the 0-100Kmph run in 10.5 seconds till a top speed of 188Kmph.

Talking of pricing, Skoda has not revealed the full pricelist yet but has said that the Kylaq range will start from Rs. 7.98 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). As for paint options, there is a new exclusive Olive Gold paint option in addition to the Tornado Red, Carbon Steel, Brilliant Silver and Candy White. The Kylaq, when launched will compete with other sub 4 metre SUVs such as Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue among other rivals.
