Tata Punch.ev launched at Rs. 10.99L

The Punch.ev features Tata’s latest Gen 2 architecture

Tata Motors has launched their fourth EV, the Punch.ev today. Based on the ALFA platform, it debut’s a new acti.ev EV architecture with batteries placed on the floor. Prices start from Rs. 10.99 Lakh (Ex-showroom).

Tata Punch.ev: Design

Talking of the exteriors, the Punch.ev deviates significantly from its Petrol-powered sibling and gets sharper elements. It follow’s Tata’s latest design philosophy with vertically mounted headlamps and sharp creases in the bumper. Being an EV, Tata has completely eliminated the front grille and the charging port flap sits on the nose of the Punch.ev.

There is also a new light bar at the front resembling the recently launched Nexon and Harrier facelifts. Towards the side, not much has changed except the new aero-style wheel design. At the rear as well, Tata has chosen to change much and the only major changes seem to be a new faux skid plate and badging.

Tata Punch.ev: Interior & Features

Inside the Punch.ev, the changes are a lot more significant. There is a revised dashboard along with a new steering wheel with an illuminated logo. You also have new a 10.2 inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay/Android Auto. Along with this, there is also a 10.2 inch digital cockpit instrument cluster.

Other additions in terms of equipment include an auto-dimming IRVM, wireless charger, auto headlamps and wipers, ventilated front seats, mood lighting etc. It also gets an innovate “frunk” under the bonnet. In terms of safety, the Punch.ev packs in 6 airbags, ABS, ESP, Isofix seat mounts, roll-over mitigation etc. Along with these you also get an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, 360 degree camera, blind-spot monitoring and emergency SOS calling as well.

Tata Punch.ev: Powertrain

Under the hood, the Punch.ev gets an option of two battery packs. The standard range gets a 25kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 315Km. The motor on this rated for 80HP and 114NM.

On the other hand, the Long Range(LR) versions get a larger 35kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 421Km. This version also gets a more powerful motor making 120HP and 190NM of torque. Tata also claims that the LR versions get 50kW fast charging capability and an optional 7.2KW home charger bundled with the car. Tata claims a top speed of 140Kmph. An 8 year/1,60,000km warranty is being offered as standard for the powertrain.

There are five colour options- Pristine White, Daytona Grey, Fearless Red, Seaweed and Empowered Oxide. The 7.2kW charger is available at a premium of Rs. 50,000 for the LR versions while the sunroof can also be had Adventure variant onwards also for an extra RS. 50,000.

The Tata Punch.ev rivals other small EVs such as the Citroen eC3 and MG Comet among others.
