Tesla Model Y – Exterior Design

In its latest iteration, the Tesla Model Y carries forward a familiar silhouette and a minimalistic design that avoids unnecessary styling elements. It has a closed of front fascia without a grille, narrow headlamps, and a wide stance. From the side, it looks like a raised sedan, with a sloping roof that merges into a subtle rear spoiler. The Model Y features 19-inch aero optimized wheels as standard on both variants.

The rear end is also minimalistic, with a horizontal taillight bar that stretches across the width. The flush door handles and aerodynamic wheels are familiar Tesla design cues. Overall, the design seems to be focusing on efficiency, with a shape that looks more purpose-built than flashy.

Tesla Model Y – Interior Design

The interior of the Tesla Model Y continues the minimalistic layout, with a flat dashboard that runs across the width of the cabin and no visible physical buttons. A centrally mounted 15.4-inch touchscreen is the only interface for the passengers upfront. You get a three spoke steering wheel with scroll-based controls for lights

The seats are finished in vegan leather and come in black colour as standard, there is an option of white but at a premium. The panoramic sunroof extends above the first and second rows. Air vents are concealed. There is no instrument cluster or drivers display as such. The rear passengers get a touchscreen mounted behind the centre console, which controls the climate, entertainment features and more.

Tesla Model Y – Battery and Range

The Tesla Model Y comes in two variants the RWD and RWD Long-Range. We have not recieved official figures from Tesla about the battery packs featured on the Tesla Modely Y. But what we can tell you is the range, published by Tesla India themselves. The RWD Model Y has a range of 500 km on the WLTP cycle with a top-speed of 201 kmph and a 0 to 100 kmph time of 5.9 seconds. The top-spec Tesla Model Y Long-Range RWD variant has a range of 622 km on the WLTP cycle and does the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in 5.6 seconds, it tops out at 201 kmph.

Tesla Model Y- Booking and Showroom

Alongside the Tesla Model Y debut, the company also opened its first Indian showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex. This marks Tesla’s first physical retail footprint in the country and signals a retail-focused strategy before committing to local production. The Model Y can be booked online via the official Tesla India website for a booking amount of ₹22,000. Delivery timelines have not been mentioned by the brand

The company is also expected to open additional outlets in Delhi NCR, with service centers and charging infrastructure gradually rolling out. Though the Model Y is currently being imported from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, government incentives could shape decisions around future assembly or manufacturing in India.

Tesla Model Y- Market Positioning and Rivals

The Tesla Model Y enters a growing field of premium electric SUVs in India that already includes the Kia EV6 (starting at ₹65.97 lakh), BYD Sealion 7 (₹48.90 lakh–₹54.90 lakh), Volvo EX40 (₹50.10 lakh), BMW iX1 LWB (₹49.00 lakh), and Mercedes-Benz EQA (₹67.20 lakh).

Some offer single-motor setups, while others come with dual-motor all-wheel drive. Differences in charging infrastructure support, warranty, and interior layout may influence buyer preference. The Model Y’s positioning in this segment will depend on how its specifications, range, and features compare to similarly priced alternatives already on sale.
