PM Modi Flags Off Maruti Suzuki e Vitara 2025 Production in Gujarat: Hybrid Battery Manufacturing Starts at Plant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated two landmark milestones at Suzuki Motor’s Hansalpur plant in Ahmedabad. One of the key highlights was the production flag-off of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. The e Vitara is the brands first global strategic battery electric vehicle (BEV). This Made-in-India electric SUV will be exported to over 100 countries, including important markets such as Europe and Japan, establishing India as Suzuki’s global EV manufacturing hub.

This milestone marks India’s growing role in global green mobility. The events underscore the government’s commitment to Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, while positioning the country as a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara – Exterior Design

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, was first revealed to the Indian Media and Public at the Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year. At the show MSIL gauged consumer response and also followed a series of dealer level showcases.Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

The e Vitara features conventional SUV styling and borrows a lot of styling cues from ICE sibling the Grand Vitara. It comes with a sculpted bonnet, a closed off front grille, and LED headlamps. The SUV feels clean and modern and not very radical like few other EVs out there. It measures in at 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,640mm in height.  A floating roof, and a sporty rear with connected taillamp, complete the look of the e SUV. The design feels appealing to both Indian buyers and export markets seeking a practical and conventional electric SUV.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara – Interior Design and Features

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara’s interior design and features are reported as seen on the model showcased during Bharat Mobility Show 2025. Features includde a floating 10.25-inch touchscreen that integrates infotainment and instrumentation, alongside a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster. The cabin includes a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, rectangular AC vents with brushed silver accents, physical climate control buttons, and part-fabric, part-leatherette upholstery.

In terms of convenience and safety, the e Vitara offers an electronic parking brake with auto hold, three drive modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport), single-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Comfort features include ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and reclining 60:40 split rear seats.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara – Battery Pack

The launch coincides with the inauguration of local hybrid battery electrode production at TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant in Gujarat, a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki. With this, over 80% of the battery’s value will now be manufactured within India.

During BMS 2025, Maruti said the e Vitara for India will be offered with two battery options, a 49kWh option and a 61kWh option. Both packs use BYD-sourced LFP ‘blade’ cells. The 49kWh version comes paired with a front-axle-mounted motor producing 143hp, while the larger 61kWh unit delivers 173hp. Torque output remains identical at 192.5Nm for both variants. While Maruti has yet to disclose exact figures, the company claims the 61kWh battery will provide an MIDC-certified range of over 500km.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara – Safety Features

Safety remains a core focus in the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. The vehicle is equipped with seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and a reinforced body structure. Level 2 Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, further enhance driver and passenger safety.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara – Market Positioning

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is strategically positioned to meet rising global demand for electric SUVs. By combining range, performance, and modern features, the SUV targets environmentally conscious buyers seeking a practical yet stylish electric vehicle. Its export-ready design demonstrates India’s capability to produce BEVs for both domestic use and international markets.

The Honorable Prime Minister also added “Today is a special day in India’s quest for self-reliance and being a hub for green mobility. At the programme in Hansalpur, e-VITARA will be flagged off. This Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) is made in India and will be exported to over a hundred nations. In a big boost to our battery ecosystem, production of hybrid battery electrodes will also commence at a plant in Gujarat.”

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara – Rivals

In the expanding electric SUV segment, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara competes with models such as the Mahindra XEV 9e & BE6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Harrier.ev & Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV and few Variants of the BYD ATTO 3. Maruti Suzuki hopes that its export-focused quality production, new set of features, and local battery integration give it an edge in efficiency, range, and sustainability over the listed competition.
