Aprilia SR 175 Launched in India with Bigger Engine, New TFT Display, and Updated Features

Aprilia India has officially launched the Aprilia SR 175 scooter as the successor to the SR 160, bringing a larger engine, revised styling, and new features. With a 174.7 cc engine and a 5.5-inch TFT display, the scooter now positions itself more clearly in the premium segment. It retains the sharp design language of the SR series while introducing functional upgrades like LED lighting and smartphone connectivity. At ₹1.26 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aprilia SR 175 enters a competitive space, aiming to appeal to buyers looking for a more powerful alternative to conventional scooters without deviating from its sporty scooter roots.

Aprilia SR 175 – Design

The Aprilia SR 175 presents a familiar yet refined silhouette, closely resembling its SR 160 predecessor. It retains its aggressive twin-LED headlamps, flat footboard, single-piece seat with integrated grab rail, and upswept exhaust. The scooter is offered in two distinct colour schemes—Matte Prismatic Dark and Glossy Tech White drawing design inspiration from Aprilia’s RS 457 and Tuono 457 motorcycles. Wheel setup remains at 14 inches front and rear, equipped with wide 120-section tyres for enhanced road presence and stability.Aprilia SR 175

Aprilia SR 175 – Powertrain

At the heart of the Aprilia SR 175 is a newly developed 174.7 cc, single-cylinder, three-valve, air-cooled engine. The increase in displacement comes from an expanded bore, resulting in power and torque outputs of 12.92 hp at 7,200 rpm and 14.14 Nm at 6,000 rpm respectively. This marks a noticeable improvement over the SR 160’s previous figures. Power delivery is handled via a CVT automatic transmission. With this launch, the SR 175 officially replaces the SR 160 in Aprilia’s Indian lineup.

Aprilia SR 175 – Features

A major addition to the Aprilia SR 175 is its new 5.5-inch full-colour TFT display. The unit supports smartphone connectivity via the Aprilia mobile app, enabling features like incoming call alerts, message notifications, and music control. The display is reportedly adapted from the RS 457 and Tuono 457 motorcycles but carries its own unique layout and user interface.

Other upgrades include full LED lighting for the headlamp, tail lamp, and indicators. A USB charging port is now part of the standard package. The scooter also features single-channel ABS, which pairs with the disc-drum braking setup to ensure safe and controlled stops.

Aprilia SR 175 – Chassis & Braking

The Aprilia SR 175 shares its core mechanical platform with the outgoing SR 160. It continues with a telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 220 mm disc at the front and a drum brake at the rear, supplemented by single-channel ABS for added safety. The 14-inch alloy wheels and wide-section tyres enhance both grip and cornering confidence, particularly in urban environments.

Aprilia SR 175 – Pricing & Availability

The Aprilia SR 175 is priced at ₹1.26 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). Depending on the state, on-road pricing may range between ₹1.28 lakh to ₹1.33 lakh. Dealerships across India began receiving stock in late June. The scooter is locally assembled at Aprilia’s Baramati plant, aiding its competitive pricing in the Indian market.  Aprilia SR 175 – Market Positioning and Rivals

The Aprilia SR 175 steps into the premium sporty-scooter segment, targeting buyers looking for performance along with modern-day features. It rivals the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the recently launched Hero Xoom 160. However, with its larger engine capacity and improved tech package, the SR 175 aims to carve out a unique space in the segment—balancing everyday usability with engaging performance.

EV scooters are steadily capturing this segment by offering higher torque, advanced tech like connected displays and navigation, and lower running costs—making them a compelling alternative to traditional petrol-powered scooters like the Aprilia SR 175 and its rivals.
