BYD India has launched the facelift of the E6 MPV, now called the eMAX 7 at Rs. 26.90 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). It gets a host of updates including reworked styling, more features and updated power figures.
BYD eMAX 7: What’s new
With the eMAX 7, BYD is aiming to further appeal to private buyers. Outside, you now have a reworked front end with a new silver strip in place of the faux grille as well a more aggressive bumper. It also now gets LED headlamps although their shape remains the same. Towards the side, it now gets updated 17 inch alloys.
At the rear is where the biggest changes are with the taillamps being new units which look larger and now get connected by an LED strip and chrome garnish.
Inside, while the basic dashboard layout remains the same, you now get brown coloured upholstery along with a new steering wheel. With the eMAX 7, BYD is offering an option for captain seats or a bench for the second row as well as a third row which was missing on the E6.
The feature list also becomes longer and now includes equipment such as a panoramic glass roof with electric shade, powered front seats with ventilation, wireless charging, NFC card key, 360 degree camera and more. As before it continues with the 12.8 inch rotating infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Safety is taken care of by an ADAS L2 suite, 6 airbags, ABS+EBD, ESP, Traction Control, Hill Hold Control and an Electronic Parking Brake among others.
Underneath, the eMAX 7 continues with the 71.8kWh battery pack which gives it an NEDC-claimed range of 530Km. The motor makes 200HP and 310NM of torque sending it from 0-100 in 8.6 seconds.
Unlike the E6, however, it now also gets the option of a smaller 55.4 kWh battery pack with a 420 km of NEDC-claimed range. In this version, the motor makes a lesser 160HP while the torque figures remain the same at 310NM. The de-tuned motor here means that the car does the 0-100 sprint in 10.1 seconds.
This time around, it’s being offered in two variants- Premium and Superior with both getting 6 or 7 seat configurations. The Premium variant comes with the smaller battery while the Superior variant gets the larger 71.8kWh battery. BYD is offering 4 colours- Cosmos Black, Crystal White, Harbour Grey and Quartz Blue. Ab 8 year/1.6L km warranty is offered on the battery while the motor gets an 8 year/1.5L km standard warranty. The DC electricals and other components on the other hand are covered for 6 years/1.5L kms.
In terms of pricing, the eMAX 7 Premium is priced at Rs. 26.90 Lakhs (6 seater) and Rs. 27.50 Lakhs (7 seater) while the Superior can be had for Rs. 29.30 Lakhs (6 seater) and Rs. 29.90 Lakhs (7 seater).
The BYD eMAX 7 has no direct rivals, however the closest competition would be in the form of the Toyota Innova Hycross and the upcoming Kia Carens EV.
