BYD Seal launched at Rs. 41 Lakh; 530HP, 650Km range!

The Seal gets upto 650km claimed range from an 82.5kWh battery

BYD has launched their second product in India, called Seal. Priced from Rs. Lakhs (Ex-showroom), it will be their flagship product available with a choice of two battery packs and three motors. Globally on sale since 2022, it was also showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. Bookings have commenced.

BYD Seal Design

Being a part of the “Ocean series” line-up, the Seal has many design elements inspired by the ocean. At the front, you have a pinched nose with sleek looking LED headlamps flanked by C shaped aero vents. Below, you also have a sporty bumper with DRLs which offer a unique look for the car. Towards the side, one notices a coupe-style roofline which curves from the windshield all the way till the boot. There are also deep but soft curves on the shoulder line as well as a black running board. A standout design feature for the Seal is the 19 inch alloys which feature an aerodynamic pattern. The car also features ORVMs finished in gloss black and flush pop-out door handles. Under the bonnet, you also have a 50L frunk storage space.

At the rear, you have a long boomerang-shaped connected taillight cluster which houses the DRLs and brake lights in a thin LED strip. Below, the bumper has been given a sporty look with aggressive aero vents and a large, gloss black diffuser. What is also unique is the absence of a BYD logo which has been replaced with a small badge in the corner of the boot. What is also unique is that BYD will be offering a fully glass roof with a blacked out top section

BYD Seal Interior & Features

Moving on inside, the Seal features a sweeping dashboard design. The centre piece of the design comes in the form of a 15.6 inch touchscreen infotainment system, that uniquely can be rotated to portrait or landscape mode. It also gets wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, two wireless smartphone chargers, dual zone climate control, heads-up display, digital instrument cluster, height adjustable cupholders and electrically operated AC vents from the touchscreen as a part of the extensive equipment list. BYD has put in heavily bolstered sports seat the front which also come with a host of features such as heating and ventilation. The driver side gets an 8 way adjustable seat with 4 way adjustable lumbar support while the passenger side gets a 6 way adjustable power seat. The car also features heated ORVMs with memory function.

Moving on towards the rear, backseat gets three individual headrests and 3 point seatbelts. You also get touch controlled reading lamps mounted on the roof as well as a flat rear floor.

Talking of safety, it is available with ADAS L2 features including adaptive cruise control and rear cross-traffic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors and a front camera. It also gets 9 airbags and other assists such as hill hold control, electronic child lock, ESP, traffic sign recognition and much more. The Seal also has a 5 star ANCAP and Euro NCAP crash test safety rating.

BYD Seal Powertrain

Under the hood, or rather the floor, the Seal comes with an option of two batteries and three motors. The base Dynamic trim gets a 61.4kWH battery with a claimed range of 510kms. This is paired to a motor making 201HP and 310NM of torque in a rear-wheel-drive configuration. The mid variant, called Premium gets a larger 82.5kWh battery with a claimed 650km of range. The motor here is also in a rear-wheel-drive configuration but makes 308HP and 360NM. However, the top Performance variant gets a massive 523HP and 670NM from the same battery albeit with a lower claimed range of 580Km given the extra power. It also gets an all-wheel-drive configuration which helps it achieve a 0-100kmph time of just 3.8 seconds. It also features Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Load charging functions as standard.

The Seal can be charged with upto 150kW DC fast charging which can give upto 200Kms of claimed range in just 15 minutes of charging. 0-80% charging in 45 minutes. BYD is offering a warranty of 8 years/1,60,000km on the battery, 8 years/ 1,50,000km on the motor and motor controller and 6 years/1,50,000Kms for the DC charging assembly and other electronics. Initial buyers will also get a 7kW home charger, 6 years RSA, 3kW portable charger, Vehicle-To-Load mobile power unit and the first service as complimentary additions.

BYD Seal Variants & Price

As mentioned before, the Seal comes in three variants- the base Dynamic version priced at Rs. 41 Lakhs, the mid-variant Premium at Rs. 45.55 Lakhs and the top Performance trim priced at Rs. 53 Lakhs (All prices ex-showroom). BYD has set a booking amount of Rs. 1.25 Lakh with the aforementioned freebies being included on bookings till 31st March 2024. Four colours will be available- Arctic Blue, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey and Cosmos Black.

The BYD Seal competes with other luxury EVs such as the Kia EV6, BMW i4 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 among others.
