Land Rover has unveiled the Defender Octa Black, an even bolder version of its flagship off-road SUV. Essentially a special edition variant of the already exclusive Defender Octa, this model has a full blackout on nearly every visible surface both on the exterior and in the interior. The Defender Octa Black is just an aesthetic package. There are no mechanical upgrades made over the standard Octa. Earlier this week Land Rover took the wraps off the Range Rover Sport SV Black Edition, which adopts a similar dark aesthetic as the Octa Black.
Defender Octa Black – Exterior Design
The Defender Octa Black features a full Narvik Black paint finish, with an optional matte protective film for added personalization. Key exterior design highlights include an option of gloss or satin black finishes on the front under-shields, rear scuff plates, tow eye cover, and quad exhaust tips.
Even the underbody elements and exhaust cover are finished in black. It rides on 20-inch forged or optional 22-inch gloss black wheels with black center caps, while gloss black brake calipers with Sentient Silver script to complete the look. Land Rover also has plans to introduce a matte-white exterior paint option as well.
Defender Octa Black – Inteiror Design
Inside, the Defender Octa Black carries forward its stealth aesthetic with Ebony Semi-Aniline leather and Kvadrat fabric on sculpted performance seats. Unique perforation patterns, contrast stitching, and Carpathian Grey finishes on the seat backs and armrest hinges have been added as part of the “Black” treatment.
The Cross Car Beam is finished in Satin Black Powder Coat, with an optional Chopped Carbon Fibre trim available for added for some theatrics. A 13.1-inch touchscreen and digital instrument cluster is carry-forward from the standard Octa. Audi duties are handled by a 700W 15 Speaker Meridian Surround System. The entire interior layout remains the same.
Defender Octa Black – Powertrain and Performance
The Defender Octa Black is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged mild-hybrid V8 petrol engine, producing 635PS. It features Land Rover’s 6D Dynamics suspension and a dedicated “Octa Mode” for high-performance off-road driving. The Octa shoots from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds and tops out at 250 kmph, which is impressive an off-road focused SUV weighing over 2.5 tonnes. The 4.4 litre V8 also does duty on the Range Rover Sport SV.
Defender Octa Black – Availability
There is no official confirmation yet on the Defender OCTA Black’s pricing. Delivery timelines are also yet to be announced. The model does not introduce changes to the drivetrain or structural platform but offers a more uniform and personalized visual identity. It is aimed at customers looking for a more exclusive version of the existing Defender Octa.
Mark Cameron, Managing Director, Defender, said: “There’s no denying the presence and purpose of Defender Octa: it’s the tallest and widest Defender, enabling it to tackle even more extreme terrain.
The introduction of Defender Octa Black takes things up a notch. We know our clients love giving their Defenders all-black finishes, so our designers have applied this principle to every possible surface – inside and out – to create the ultimate tough luxury Defender Octa.”
Also to be noted is the Defender is the official automotive partner of Oasis Live ’25, transporting the British band on their long-awaited 41-date global tour, which starts in the UK today and coincides with the launch of the Octa Black.
Defender Octa Black – Market Positioning and Rivals
The Defender Octa Black positions itself among high-performance off-road SUVs, takes models like the Mercedes-AMG G63, Ford Bronco Raptor, and Jeep Wrangler in global markets. While each offers a different approach to rugged capability and performance, all cater to buyers seeking power, durability, and presence. The Octa Black has made its global debut, but there is no official word yet on its India launch timeline or expected pricing. The standard Defender Octa currently starts at ₹2.59 crores ex-showroom.
