Kia India has officially teased its upcoming electric MPV, the Kia Carens Clavis EV, revealing key details of its design, features, and expected specifications. As the brand’s first full-electric MPV for the Indian market, the Carens Clavis EV is set to compete in the family EV space when it launches on July 15, 2025. While full specifications are still under wraps, the teaser offers a strong indication of what buyers can expect.
Kia Carens Clavis EV – Design and Styling
The Kia Carens Clavis EV retains the overall silhouette of its ICE-powered sibling but introduces several EV-specific styling cues. Up front, the car features a front mounted charger, a design feature that is common among electric vehicles. The front bumper now houses foglamps, a feature that was missing on the ICE Clavis.
New LED lighting signatures, including the “Digital Tiger Face” and “Starmap” LED DRLs are similar to what was seen when the ICE Clavis launched earlier this year. An LED lightbar connecting the headlamps, give the Carens Clavis EV a distinct identity over its ICE sibling. Other visual upgrades include revised skid plates, EV specific alloys, that seem to have been optimized for aerodynamics. The design is not radical like most EV designs; instead, it retains the familiar silhouette of Carens Clavis.
Kia Carens Clavis EV – Interior and Features
The cabin of the Kia Carens Clavis EV appears to carry forward the layout of the Clavis ICE variant but adds few EV design changes. The teaser showcases a floating center console that ditches the gear lever, freeing up space and improving practicality. There two 12.3-inch digital displays as seen on its ICE counterpart — one for the infotainment system and the other for the digital instrument cluster.
Interior features expected in the Kia Carens Clavis EV include a dual-pane sunroof, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a premium audio system, and wireless charging. The EV reatains the 7-seater layout, making it one of the few electric vehicles that are MPV’s.
Kia Carens Clavis EV – Range and Battery Pack
Perhaps the most anticipated detail of the Kia Carens Clavis EV is its range. Based on the information shared by Kia so far in the teaser, the EV is expected to offer up to 490 km of range on the MIDC cycle. For comparison the closest rival to the Clavis EV, the BYD eMax 7 offers a range up to 530 km.
The car will likely power a single front-axle electric motor, optimized more for efficiency than performance. This setup should be sufficient for the Carens Clavis EV’s target audience of family buyers and long-distance commuters.
Kia Carens Clavis EV – Safety and ADAS Technology
In terms of safety, the Kia Carens Clavis EV is expected to be well-equipped. It should carry over safety features from the ICE version such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, and traction control. Higher variants may offer Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking.
The infotainment system will likely support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with over-the-air (OTA) updates and Kia Connect telematics.
Kia Carens Clavis EV – Price Expectation
While pricing will be confirmed on July 15, the Kia Carens Clavis EV is expected to be positioned in the ₹22 lakh to ₹25 lakh range (ex-showroom). Given its size, range, and features, it could undercut premium EVs while offering more practicality than SUV based electric offerings. It also has the potential to disrupt the slightly premium electric MPV market currently dominated by the BYD eMax7. The Carens Clavis EV will be manufactured in India, which could help Kia price it competitively against hybrid SUVs and entry-level luxury EVs.
Kia Carens Clavis EV – Segment Positioning and Rivals
The Kia Carens Clavis EV enters a competitive market, going head-to-head with the BYD eMax 7 in the electric MPV space. Among electric SUVs, it faces rivals like the newly launched Tata Harrier.ev, Hyundai Creta EV, and the Mahindra XEV 9e. Mahindra is also readying an all-electric XUV700. From a hybrid MPV angle, the Clavis EV may challenge the popular Toyota Innova Hycross.
