Mahindra has expanded its Thar Roxx lineup with the launch of the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition at ₹16.85 lakhs (ex-showroom). This new variant is positioned as a design-focused offering rather than a mechanical upgrade. The new edition centres on cosmetic revisions and cabin enhancements while retaining the same powertrain and drivetrain options currently offered on the Thar Roxx. The Star Edition is offered exclusively with a rear-wheel-drive layout, with no four-wheel-drive variant available.
Mechanical specifications remain unchanged, and Mahindra has not introduced any additional off-road hardware or tuning revisions with this update. The Star Edition follows Mahindra’s most recent launch, the XUV 7XO.
Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition – Exterior Design
Exterior updates on the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition are subtle but clearly differentiated from the standard variants. The most noticeable change is the introduction of a piano black front grille, replacing the more conventional body colour grill seen on other Thar Roxx trims. This darker treatment extends to the alloy wheels as well, which now feature a piano black finish. The Star Edition is also distinguished by ‘Star EDN’ badging on the C-pillar, offering a subtle visual identifier over the standard variants.
Mahindra has also added a new exterior paint option called “Citrine Yellow”, which joins the existing colour palette. The other colour options available on the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition include Tango Red, Everest White and Stealth Black.. No changes have been made to the overall body design, proportions or off-road-focused elements such as approach angles or ground clearance.
Apart from the revised grille, wheels and colour addition, the rest of the exterior hardware remains consistent with the Thar Roxx lineup, reinforcing the fact that this edition is positioned as a cosmetic update rather than a structural or functional revision.

Inside the cabin, the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition introduces a restrained set of upgrades focused on material colours and quality. The seats are finished in all-black leatherette upholstery, complemented by suede accents that are aimed to be more premium compared to standard trims.
Front-seat occupants benefit from ventilated seats along with a sliding armrest. Rear passengers get 60:40 split seats with recline settings. Automatic climate control and steering-mounted controls are part of the standard equipment on the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition, ensuring parity with higher trims in terms of everyday convenience. The overall layout and dashboard architecture remain unchanged, with no redesign or reconfiguration introduced for this edition.
The technology package on the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition mirrors that of the existing Thar Roxx variants. It continues to feature a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster. Mahindra’s Adrenox connected car technology is standard, offering remote vehicle functions and integration with Alexa voice commands.
Both wired and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included. Audio duties are handled by a Harman Kardon sound system, while a surround-view camera system assists with parking and tight maneuvers. There are no new software features or interface updates exclusive to the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition, underlining its positioning as a cosmetic and comfort-oriented update rather than a technology refresh.
Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition – Safety Highlights
Safety equipment on the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition remains comprehensive and unchanged. The SUV comes equipped with six airbags and a tyre pressure monitoring system as standard. Front and rear parking sensors are paired with a reverse camera for improved visibility.
Additional features include an auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror, SOS and e-call functions, and electronic safety systems designed to meet modern regulatory requirements. The Mahindra Thar Roxx has received a 5-star rating under Bharat NCAP, and the Star Edition retains the same safety structure and equipment as the standard variants
Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition – Powertrain
Mechanically, the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition carries forward the same engine options available across the Thar Roxx range. Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel unit. The petrol engine is offered exclusively with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, while the diesel is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2.0-litre petrol develops 174 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre diesel produces 172 hp and 400 Nm of torque in automatic form, while the manual variant delivers 150 hp and 370 Nm of torque. The drivetrain layout remains rear-wheel drive across all Star Edition variants. There are no changes to engine output figures, suspension setup or off-road hardware. As a result, performance, efficiency and driving characteristics should remain identical to the standard Thar Roxx variants.

Pricing for the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition begins at ₹17.85 lakh for the petrol automatic, ₹16.85 lakh for the diesel manual and extends up to ₹18.35 lakh for the diesel automatic, all ex-showroom. In the variant hierarchy, the Star Edition is positioned below the AX5L and AX7L trims, with the diesel-manual version priced close to ₹2 lakh lower than the AX7L on an ex-showroom basis.

With the introduction of the Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition, the company appears to be keeping the Thar Roxx range fresh as it looks to sustain sales momentum. The Thar Roxx continues to operate in a niche space, competing directly with lifestyle-oriented off-road SUVs such as the Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
