Tata Motors has launched the much-awaited Tata Sierra EV in India at a starting price of Rs. 18.79 lakh (ex showroom). The launch comes just six months after the Sierra ICE made its debut in December last year, marking the return of the iconic Sierra nameplate after a gap of more than two decades. The Sierra EV is based on Tata Motors’ Acti.ev platform, which also underpins the Harrier EV, and joins the brand’s growing electric vehicle portfolio.
This is Tata Motors’ fifth launch of the year. The year began with the Punch facelift, followed by the Punch EV facelift, and later the Tiago and Tiago EV facelifts, with the Sierra EV now becoming the latest addition to the lineup.
Tata Sierra EV – Exterior Design
The Tata Sierra EV closely follows the design of the Sierra ICE, retaining the distinctive styling that has defined the model since its return. It carries forward the upright stance, large glasshouse and clean proportions, while maintaining dimensions that are nearly identical to its internal combustion counterpart. The signature wraparound rear quarter glass and boxy SUV profile continue to give the Sierra a unique presence on the road.

As expected from an electric vehicle, the Sierra EV features a closed off front fascia in place of a conventional grille, aligning it with Tata Motors’ EV design language. The front and rear bumpers have been subtly revised to give the SUV a cleaner appearance while also improving aerodynamic efficiency. It also gets a fresh set of aerodynamic alloy wheels designed specifically for the electric variant. Overall, Tata Motors has chosen to preserve the Sierra’s iconic identity while introducing the necessary EV specific design elements, resulting in a familiar yet modern looking electric SUV.

The Tata Sierra EV is offered in six colour options. Rishikesh Rapids debuts as an all new shade for the Sierra, while Nainital Nocturne, first introduced on the Harrier EV, also joins the Sierra EV’s colour palette alongside Pristine White, Andaman Adventure, Coorg Cloud, Bengal Rouge and Pure Grey.
Tata Sierra EV – Interior Design and Features
The interior of the Tata Sierra EV remains largely identical to the Sierra ICE, carrying forward the same dashboard layout and overall cabin design. It features a triple screen setup comprising a 12.3 inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3 inch passenger display and a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster. Other highlights include ventilated front seats with electric adjustment, memory function, welcome function for the driver’s seat and thigh extenders, rear AC vents, rear window sunblinds, ambient lighting, wireless phone charger, NFC key card and a fully automatic climate control system.
Tata has also equipped the Sierra EV with a 12 speaker JBL Black audio system with Dolby Atmos, making it the first car in India to support Apple CarPlay with Dolby Atmos. It also gets a segment first soundbar with Soundbar Mode, an Augmented Reality Head Up Display with four display modes, Air Console multiplayer gaming, Level 2+ ADAS, a 540 degree surround view camera with transparent view, park assist, summon mode and six airbags. Practicality is taken car by a 622 litre and a 55 litre front trunk.
Tata is also offering an extensive list of features as standard from the base variant, including 18 inch alloy wheels, UltraGlide suspension with Frequency Selective Dampers, all wheel disc brakes, IRA.ev connected car suite with a four year subscription, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, EV Route Planner for Android Auto, Bi LED projector headlamps, rear camera with park assist and rear wiper with washer.
Tata Sierra EV – Battery Pack, Range and Charging
The Tata Sierra EV is available with two battery pack options, a 63 kWh unit and a larger 75 kWh unit. The smaller battery offers a claimed MIDC range of 565 km, while the 75 kWh version delivers up to 665 km on a full charge. The dual motor all wheel drive variant, which is the only AWD electric SUV in its segment, produces 378 hp and 504 Nm of torque, enabling a claimed 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 5.8 seconds, making it the quickest Indian EV to date.

The Sierra EV is based on Tata Motors’ Acti.ev architecture and comes with a lifetime battery warranty. Charging options include support for a 120 kW DC fast charger, a 7.2 kW charger and a 3.3 kW portable charger. Tata claims the battery can be charged from 20 to 80% in just 27 minutes, while the 75 kWh variant can add up to 263 km of range in only 15 minutes of fast charging. The SUV also gets an illuminated charging ring, Vehicle to Load capability supporting appliances up to 3 kW and Vehicle to Vehicle charging. The 7.2 kW fast charger option is available at an additional cost of Rs 49,000.
