2026 Volkswagen Tayron Revealed in India: Expected Price, Specs, Features

Volkswagen has officially revealed the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line for the Indian market. The SUV will be brought to India as a completely knocked-down (CKD) unit and will be assembled at Volkswagen’s Aurangabad manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. The Tayron R-Line will replace the Tiguan Allspace, which was previously on sale in India, and will be positioned above the Tiguan R-Line in Volkswagen’s India lineup. With this positioning, the Tayron R-Line will serve as Volkswagen’s flagship SUV offering in the country.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line – Exterior Design

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line follows the brand’s latest global design language. Up front, the SUV features a wide grille flanked by LED IQ Matrix  headlamps, visually connected by a full-width light bar with an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The R-Line specification adds sportier bumper designs, larger air intakes and gloss black exterior accents, giving the Tayron a more aggressive stance.

In profile, the Tayron R-Line gets strong shoulder lines, flared wheel arches and 19-inch alloy wheels exclusive to the R-Line trim. At the rear, the SUV is characterized by a full-width LED light bar and an illuminated Volkswagen logo.Based on the MQB Evo platform, which it shares with the Tiguan, the Tayron is notably larger in size. It measures 4,792mm in length, 1,866mm in width and 1,665mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,789mm.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line – Interior Design and Features

Inside, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line the dashboard is dominated by a large free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, expected to be a 15-inch unit, similar to the setup seen on the Tiguan R-Line. This is paired with a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster.

In terms of features, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is expected to offer three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless smartphone connectivity. Comfort and convenience are further enhanced by powered front seats with memory, ventilation and massage functions, a 360-degree camera system, Heads-up-display, and sliding and reclining second-row seats. Additional rear-seat conveniences include integrated sunblinds, 30 shades of ambient lighting,  wireless charging, gesture control tailgate and dual 45 W USB type C ports. Audio duties are handled by a 11-speaker Harmon Kardon system.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line – Powertrain 

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. This setup produces 204hp and 320Nm of torque.

Power is sent to all four wheels via an all-wheel-drive system, and the SUV offers six selectable drive modes to suit different driving conditions. Volkswagen claims a top speed of 224kmph, placing the Tayron R-Line among the more performance-focused offerings in its segment. VW also claims a 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 7.3 seconds.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line – Safety Features

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line comes equipped with a comprehensive safety package. It features Level 2 ADAS, offering functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and autonomous emergency braking. Standard safety equipment includes nine airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill ascent and hill descent control, and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. Additional safety features are likely to include traction control, EBD etc. The Tayron will also be equipped with a 360 degree and park assist.

It is also worth noting that the European-spec Volkswagen Tayron has secured a five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests. It remains to be seen how the India-spec Tayron R-Line performs under the Bharat NCAP testing programme.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line – Market Positioning and Rivals

In India, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is expected to be priced in the range of ₹45 lakh to ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it in a segment that overlaps 7 seat monocoque SUVs and traditional ladder-frame models. Likely rivals include the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Jeep Meridian. Given its expected pricing, the Tayron R-Line may also be cross-shopped with entry-level luxury SUVs such as the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA, despite differing body styles and powertrains.
