Mercedes SL 55 AMG launched at Rs. 2.35 Cr

This generation of the SL is only available in AMG guise worldwide

Mercedes-Benz has launched the seventh-generation SL55 AMG in India. The SL nameplate returns to India after a gap of one generation in a single 55 AMG trim. Globally, Mercedes is only offering this generation in the AMG guise. The price has been kept at Rs. 2.35 Cr. (Ex-showroom).

Mercedes SL55 AMG Exteriors & Dimensions

The new SL-class retains the two-door shape with a long bonnet and sleek curves. It follows Mercedes’ new design philosophy which includes the long swept triangular headlights and the large “Panamericana” grille with vertical slats. The car also features aggressive bumpers along with optional 21 inch alloy wheels. At the rear, you have quad exhaust tips along with a large, retractable spoiler that automatically raises itself above 100Kmph to increase the downforce. The new SL gets a fabric soft-top roof which can be electronically raised and lowered at speeds upto 60Kmph within 15 seconds. It’s available in 3 colours- Black, Grey and Red.

In terms of dimensions, the new SL has grown by 88mm,38mm and 44mm in length, width and height respectively. The wheelbase has also become longer by 117mm to better accommodate the rear seats. Talking of the exterior colours, Mercedes is offering the SL55 AMG in 8 colours- Obsidian black, Selenite grey, Hyper blue, Alpine grey, Opalite white bright, Spectral blue magno, Patagonia red bright and Monza Grey Magno.

Mercedes SL55 AMG Powertrain

The SL55 AMG gets powered by a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine which is mated to a 9 speed torque converter transmission. It produces 476HP and 700NM of torque. This power is sent to the wheels by a 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes claims 0-100Kmph time of 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 295Kmph. Rear-wheel steering is also being offered as standard. The optional equipment also includes 4 wheel design options and ceramic brakes along with red brake callipers.

Inside, the SL55 AMG features the same design language as other global Mercedes models. The centre console is dominated by an 11.9 inch touchscreen which can be tilted by upto 20 degrees to avoid glare. Below it is a sleek array of buttons with some brushed aluminium trim. The AC vents resemble turbines and have ambient lighting on the dials. The 12.3 inch LCD display acts as a digital instrument cluster behind which you would find the latest steering wheel with a large logo in the centre and five sleek spokes which house the steering mounted controls. Further, Mercedes is offering a choice of 5 upholstery options with either red or black stitching. Buyers can also opt for special AMG racing seats.

Mercedes SL55 AMG Price & Rivals

Mercedes is offering the new SL in a single SL55 AMG trim which has been launched at a price of Rs. 2.35 Cr. (Ex-showroom) excluding options. It will be rivalling other two-door sports coupe and convertibles such as the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, Lexus LC500h and the Jaguar F-Type SVR.
